Estimator (Levels I–V) 

 

Location: Orange County, CA 
Employment Type: Full-Time 
Reports To: Preconstruction Leadership 

 

Role Overview 

PR Construction is seeking Estimators at multiple experience levels to support our growing commercial construction portfolio. Estimators are responsible for preparing accurate, complete, and risk-aware cost estimates that support informed decision-making, competitive pursuits, and successful project execution. 

Candidates will be evaluated and placed at the appropriate level (I–V) based on experience, demonstrated capability, and readiness. 

 

Core Responsibilities (All Levels) 

  • Prepare accurate and well-documented cost estimates in accordance with company standards 

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and scope analysis 

  • Coordinate subcontractor bidding, coverage, and scope review 

  • Identify risks, assumptions, and clarifications within estimates 

  • Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and turnover meetings 

  • Collaborate with Operations, Business Development, and Leadership 

 

Level Overview 

Level I – Entry-Level Estimator 
Supports takeoffs, data entry, and estimate preparation while learning estimating systems, tools, and construction fundamentals. 

Level II – Estimator 
Prepares complete estimates for smaller projects with limited oversight and supports subcontractor coordination. 

Level III – Estimator 
Leads multiple estimates simultaneously and prepares estimates of any value with strong independence and judgment. 

Level IV – Senior Estimator 
Leads complex and high-value estimates, mentors junior estimators, and supports risk evaluation and strategic pursuits. 

Level V – Director of Preconstruction / Lead Estimator 
Sets estimating strategy and standards, oversees high-risk pursuits, and partners with executive leadership on enterprise-level decisions. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Commercial construction estimating experience appropriate to level 

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and pricing 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines 

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proficiency with estimating software and Excel 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field 

  • Experience with TI, ground-up, negotiated, or design-assist work 

  • Leadership or mentoring experience (senior levels) 

 

Compensation Transparency (California) 

Compensation is based on level, experience, and qualifications. 

  • Level I: $60,000 – $75,000 

  • Level II: $75,000 – $100,000 

  • Level III: $95,000 – $125,000 

  • Level IV: $120,000 – $160,000 

  • Level V: $150,000 – $210,000 

Incentive eligibility may apply by level.
